Your Guide to a Smooth Start at University
Before you delve into your new studies, there are a few practical and administrative things you need to sort out.
This guide will help you get off to a good start so you can focus on your studies from day one.
1. Get Access to SDU’s IT Systems
Once you have ordered your student card, you need to activate your SDU account.
Your SDU account gives you access to:
-
Itslearning: SDU’s learning platform, where you’ll find course materials, reading lists, and be able to communicate with lecturers and fellow students.
-
SDUmail (Outlook): Your official SDU email address. This is where all important communication from the university, your instructors, and student advisors will appear. Check your SDUmail regularly — preferably daily.
-
SDU Student Self-Service: An online platform where you register for courses and exams and can view your exam results.
Easy access to SDU's essential IT systems is available on MySDU under the 'Links' menu item.
2. Register for Your Courses
As an SDU student, you're responsible for registering for your own courses through SDU Student Self-Service.
You should have already received information about this from The International Office.
The ordinary registration period was May 20th - 30th. However, if you haven't registered yet, it's crucial to do so as soon as possible to secure your spot.
When you register, make sure you:
- Only register for courses you intend to take in your first semester.
- Choose the correct level (Graduate or Undergraduate).
- Select courses at the correct campus (Odense).
- Check for timetable overlaps by using the link at the bottom of each course description.
Your personal timetable for your registered courses will be visible in your Itslearning calendar in August.
All of this will be thoroughly explained during the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences' part of Orientation Day.
You can read more about course registration under the menu item Registration for courses
3. Find Your Timetable
Your timetable is available via Itslearning under "Calendar" from August 1st. It’s important to check your timetable regularly, as changes may occur.
4. Get ready for life in Denmark
Living in a new country is both exciting and challenging, but we hope that you will dive into it and never hesitate to ask your fellow Danish students, or contact us here in the Study Administration or BSS Counselling Services, with any questions you may have.
