If so, spending time at one of our north2north partner universities or doing field work in the Arctic might be just the thing for you.

north2north is an arctic network with many universities around the Arctic. Many of them are also partners with SDU within other programs or networks.

You will find north2north exchange places in the catalogue for European universities as well as in the catalogue for overseas universities.

How to apply

The application process depends on the activity:

Exchange places

  1. Exchange places (or tuition waivers) are announced in the regular autumn application round (deadline 1 November) and you apply for these just as you would apply for ordinary exchange places. You can read more about the application process under How to do it: Application to SDU.
  2. If you are eligible for the exchange place, we will nominate you to the north2north main office in Finland, who handles the allocation of places among all participants in the network. For this nomination, we will ask you for a “Motivational Letter”, explaining why exactly you should be selected for this exchange place.
  3. As soon as we have the decision from the main office in Finland, we will inform you. You should expect to receive a decision in late February.
  4. If you do not receive an offer in late February, you can still apply for an exchange place in our spring application round (deadline 1 March).

Other types of mobility

Other types of mobility in the north2north area could be conference attendance, field school participation, intensive course participation or similar. To apply for nomination for such an activity and/or for a grant, please send a Motivational Letter to outgoing@sdu.dk by 15 February explaining what you are applying for and why.

Grant opportunities

There are two types of grants:

  • Long term mobility: A monthly grant of 3.700 DKK as supplement to cover daily living costs during exchange studies with a duration of 2-12 months. You are automatically nominated for this grant, if you are nominated for an exchange place.
  • Short term mobility: A grant as supplement to cover travel and accommodation costs connected to participating in a field school, intensive course or conference, where the grant amount is based on the distance travelled:
    • Within Europe: 11.200 DKK
    • Overseas: 22.400 DKK

It is not possible to apply for grants to both long term and short term mobility at the same time.
