Pre-approval of credit transfer

When you want to follow one or more courses offered on another study programme or educational institution, and you would like it to be included as part of your study programme, you must apply to the Study Board for pre-approval of credit transfer. You must send the application in advance - that is, BEFORE you start the course. If you do not have a pre-approval of credit transfer, you cannot be sure that the course can be included in your study programme. You can apply for pre-approval of credit transfer for courses at both Danish and foreign universities and educational institutions.

Before you travel abroad as engineering student, you must apply to the Study Board for approval of the courses you plan to follow at your host university.

Before applying for pre-approval of credit transfer, you must

  • Read the guide on study abroad in the engineering programs
  • Read the guide Credit Transfer and Study Abroad (available via the yellow box to the right)
  • Find the courses you would like to follow at the host university. You can, at a maximum, have credits transferred corresponding to 30 ECTS points.
  • Make sure that the courses are offered at your level of education — bachelor or Master’s.
  • Make a PDF file for each course you want to follow. The file must contain a description of the course's content and scope in local credits or ECTS points and whether the course is offered at bachelor's or master's level. The course descriptions must be in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English.

Application and deadlines

Please note that the Study Board will at the earliest process applications for pre-approval of credit transfer for student exchange abroad during the autumn semester, at the meeting in May. You  find further  information about application deadlines and case processing time here .

You must apply for pre-approval of credit transfer no later than 3 months before scheduled departure.

Once you have received an approval of your pre-approval of credit transfer and there are changes in the course offer, you must apply for a changed pre-approval of credit transfer. In that case, the Study Board will consider your new application in connection with the August meeting for study abroad in the autumn semester, and the January meeting for stays abroad during the spring semester.

If you want to follow courses that are not part of your curriculum - either at SDU or another Danish university - you must apply for pre-approval of credit transfer. Without an approved application on pre-approval of credit transfer, you will not be able to enroll in the course in question.

Before applying for pre-approval of credit transfer, you must

  • Read about the Study Board's practice for pre-approval of credit-transfer here.
  • Make sure that the desired course does not have a overlap with courses you have already passed, as regards to the contents of the course.
  • Make sure that the course is offered at your level of education - bachelor or master.
  • Make a PDF file for each course you want to follow. The file must contain a description of the course's content and scope in ECTS credits and whether the course is offered at bachelor's or master's level. The course descriptions must be in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English.

You will find information about application deadlines and case processing time here.

When you fill in the application form, it is important that you consider whether the new course should replace another course you have already signed up for, or whether the course should replace, for example, any elective course in your education.

Registration

Once you have received the decision on pre-approval of credit transfer, you must register for the course in question.

  • If the course is offered by SDU, you must write to Uddannelsesjura & Registratur via SPOC https://spoc.sdu.dk -> Registration for teaching courses
  • If the course is offered by another Danish university, you must follow their instructions
  • The registration is binding, and you can basically only complete your education if you pass the course in question.
