Check your registrations
When you are registered for classes, you will automatically be registered for the ordinary exam (1st exam attempt).
Always check well in advance of the exam which exams you are registered for, to make sure you are on the right lists, and keep an eye out for potential changes. You can check your exam registrations on the SDU Student Self Service pages and/or in the Digital Exam system.
You can only access the exam if you are registered for the exam, so remember to check your registrations.
Course and Exam Registration for Engineering Programmes
Ordinary exams are typically held in January during the winter exam period, and in June during the summer examination period, though some may occur earlier.
For the first two semesters of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering programme, you are automatically registered for courses and the ordinary exams.
Starting from the third semester, you must register for courses and the ordinary exams yourself.
You can register for courses and ordinary exams via SDU Student Self Service during the following registration periods:
- 20th – 30th November for spring semester courses and ordinary exams
- 20th – 30th May for autumn semester courses and ordinary exams.
Once you have passed an exam, you cannot retake it to improve your grade.
Register for the re-exam
As a rule, you have three attempts to pass each exam. If you have not used all your exam attempts, you can register for a re-exam.
If you wish to take the re-exam in the same exam period as the ordinary exam, you must register for the re-exam during the exam registration period, even if you have not yet received your assessment or attended the ordinary exam.
You can see your used exam attempts and register for the re-exam in SDU Student Self-Service pages.
Go to the SDU Student Self-Service pages.
If, due to exceptional circumstances, you have used your three exam attempts without passing the exam, you can apply to the study board for an extra exam attempt.
There may be specific rules for registration for re-exams for e.g. internships, bachelor projects and final projects. You can find the rules in your programme regulations and/or in the course description.
If a course is offered for the last time, there may be mandatory and automatic registration for the re-exam.
Reexams on Engineering Programmes
Reexams are scheduled as follows:
- 7th February – 7th March in the winter examination period, and
- 1st – 31st August in the summer examination period.
To register for a reexam, you must have been registered for the ordinary exam in the same examination period.
Registration for reexams is voluntary. If you wish to take a reexam, you should register through SDU Student Self Service during the following registration periods:
- 1st – 21st January for reexams in the winter examination period
- 1st – 21st June for reexams in the summer examination period.
If you are registered for a reexam but pass the ordinary exam, SDU will cancel your reexam registration.
Please be aware of the specific rules re. reexams in the bachelor project.

Register for exams without being registered for classes
You are automatically registered for the exam when you register for classes or for a course, but if you need to register for the 2nd or 3rd exam attempt (re-exam), you can register for the exam without being registered for or attending the classes.
If you want to take an exam, it is generally a good idea to also sign up for classes and attend them. Even if you do not attend the classes, it will be relevant for you to have access to the latest version of the course on itslearning. Here you will be able to find the current teaching materials, syllabuses, etc.
If you are not registered for classes but would like to register for the exam, you must do so during the special exam registration periods. At XX programme/faculty, the exam registration period is XX.
