If you have fallen sick and the sickness affects your ability to participate in one or more exams, you have a number of options
Always remember to read our information on which documentation we require (at the bottom of the page) before contacting the university.
1. Notification of sickness for one or more exams where participation in the exam is affected directly by your sickness
- You may report sickness to the exam(s) that are directly affected by your sickness. Directly understood that you are sick or fall sick while one or more exams are being conducted.
- You report sickness by writing to the university via SPOC.
- Remember you must be able to document that you are sick. Read more at the bottom of the page.
Special information on specific types of exams
- If your exam is a written in-situ examination, you must notify the exam attendant and say that you are sick.
- For all written exams, it is important that you do not submit anything for assessment. If you submit, you cannot be reported as sick to the exam. Also, do not "blank" the exam by submitting a blank document or by using the "I want to submit blank" function in "Digital Exam".
- If you are at an oral exam, just tell your examiner that you are interrupting the exam due to sickness.
- If you fall sick for classes that you are have to participate in (attendance classes), you must contact your education and hear about your options. You will find the contact information on the programme page at www.mitsdu.dk
2. Deregister from one or more exams that are not directly affected by your sickness
- If you have recovered but believe that a past period of sickness affects your ability to participate in one or more future exams, you can apply to be deregistered from the exam or the exams.
- Applications for deregistration must be sent to your study board via SPOC.
- Remember you must be able to document that you are sick. Read more at the bottom of the page.
3. If you get sick during your final project, bachelor project or master's thesis
If the sickness means that you cannot submit your final project/bachelor project/master's thesis on time, you can contact your programme and hear about your options. You will find the contact information on the programme page on www.mitsdu.dk.
4. Is your exam already done? Or has the deadline for submission passed?
If the exam is already over or if the deadline for submission has passed without you having participated in the exam or turned in anything, you can still do something. Simply follow the above instructions depending on the situation you were in.
If you are in doubt about what to do, you are welcome to contact the university via SPOC.
You must be able to document your sickness
Whichever option you choose, you must be able to document that you are or were sick and therefore cannot or could not participate in the exam. It is your own responsibility to provide the documentation and, if necessary, to pay for it.
Documentation may include a medical certificate or the opinion of a hospital. You can read more about our requirements for the content of the medical certificate on our medical certificates page.
When should you contact your doctor at the latest?
We recommend that you contact your doctor no later than the day of the exam or the day of submission. If your doctor does not check on you no later than the day of the exam, they may find it difficult to document that you are sick. You may also need the documentation at a later stage during your education, so remember to save it.
Processing your inquiry
Whichever path you choose, please note that your request does not mean that you will receive what you want. The University will take a specific position on your enquiry and the circumstances of the case, including the documentation submitted.
You should also be aware that a notification of illness does not mean that you can be granted an exemption from other rules, e.g. activity requirements and deadline for completing your education.
