Registration for and withdrawal from classes and exams

How to Register for Courses and Exams

You are responsible for registering for the courses you wish to attend. You can register for your desired courses through the SDU student self-service portal.

Note! When you register for a course, you are also registered for the first attempt of the exams related to that course.
You can find the regulations in this area through this link.

Registration Periods

Registration for courses and exams occurs simultaneously for all students at SDU:

  • Registration for spring semester courses and exams takes place during the period of November 20 - 30.
  • Registration for autumn semester courses and exams takes place during the period of May 20 - 30.

Note! There are two exceptions regarding registration for courses and exams that you should be aware of:

  • First semester in all bachelor programs: SDU automatically registers you for courses when you are admitted to your bachelor program. In some study lines, you will automatically be registered for courses for your entire first year of study in the bachelor program - meaning both the 1st and 2nd semester. Check your study regulations to see if this applies to you.
  • Be aware that in some study lines, you will be automatically registered for your thesis once you have passed 40 ECTS credits. Check your study regulations to see if this applies to you.

You Decide How Many ECTS Credits to Register For

SDU does not have a general requirement for mandatory registration for courses and exams equivalent to a specific number of ECTS credits per academic year. However, you should be aware of the study activity requirement.

Change of Registrations at the Start of the Semester

From the start of the semester (spring semester February 1 / autumn semester September 1) and for 21 days thereafter, you can change your registrations. You can add courses and exams if they are listed in the student self-service portal. You can also unregister from courses and exams; read more about unregistration here: [link]
