SDU and Slagelse Municipality enter into a partnership agreement
Slagelse Municipality and SDU are now strengthening their good and close collaboration further with a partnership agreement which builds on the existing collaboration between the municipality, SDU, the local community and the business community.
The University of Southern Denmark and Slagelse Municipality have entered into a partnership agreement on education in the municipality.
The aim of the partnership agreement is for SDU to strengthen existing education programmes and create new attractive research-based educational opportunities in Slagelse. Likewise, the municipality will develop and ensure physical settings and a housing and student job market that match the development of student places.
According to Jens Ringsmose, Rector of SDU, the new partnership agreement will strengthen SDU’s presence in Slagelse as well as fit in with the regionalisation work that is currently in progress.
- The partnership agreement fits perfectly into our efforts to increase the regional presence at the campuses outside Odense. With this agreement, we will create a clearer campus profile for Slagelse, where the already strong collaboration between SDU and the municipality, the local community and the business community will get a boost making Slagelse an even better place to study, he says.
Happiness in Slagelse
The agreement will have great significance for Slagelse as a city and municipality. This is the opinion of Mayor John Dyrby Paulsen, who is looking forward to Slagelse becoming an even more attractive city of studies.
- The partnership agreement will give a significant boost to Slagelse as a university and education city. This means that our young people will now get even more attractive education programmes to choose from and that our local companies will get better opportunities to recruit the qualified workforce they need. This is why I am very pleased with the agreement.
A good 500 more students to the city
Today, education programmes in the fields of communication and economics are offered, which the partnership agreement will help to promote. In addition, SDU seeks to expand the city’s programme activities in the fields of commerce and health, corresponding to an increase in the student population at the graduate and postgraduate levels of around 500 students, bringing the total number of students in the city up to about 2,000.
Since 2007, SDU has offered education programmes in Slagelse. There are currently about 1,400 students and approx. 60 employees on campus.
More specific info follows
It is not possible to be more specific about the education programmes as SDU is currently working on a plan of how to handle the political regionalisation requirements to relocate student places from Campus Odense.
An announcement of the education programmes to be set up in Slagelse will follow together with a clarification of the overall decisions on the regionalisation work. The Central Liaison Committee, the University Council and the student organisation De Studerende i Centrum were given an overall status of the Executive Board’s planning efforts last week.
The Board is expected to make a decision on SDU’s institutional plan in December, and SDU’s Executive Board expects to be able to publish the specific plan no later than the beginning of January 2022.
