2 September 2024 is the first day of the autumn semester with ordinarily scheduled teaching activities.
However, a few courses are taught as intensive summer courses during August, in which case that is noted in the course description.
If you haven’t got your Bachelor degree from the University of Southern Denmark, it’s very important that you order your student card as soon as possible. When you order it, you’ll receive an exam number, which you need for accessing the university’s IT facilities.
This also applies if you have got your Bachelor degree from the University of Southern Denmark but more than 90 days have passed since the grading of your last exam.
As a student at the University of Southern Denmark, you have access to the IT services of the University of Southern Denmark, including your student e-mail address, the Student Self Service portal and the e-learn platform Blackboard.
We will send you an e-mail with information on the IT services of the University of Southern Denmark and on the access to these services to the e-mail address that you stated on your application. If you did not receive the e-mail within 1 week, please contact helpdesk@helpdesk.sdu.dk.
If you are not fully admitted to your master study programme, the courses that you need to pass, will be listed in your letter of admission.
You must send the documentation to the admissions office through www.sdu.dk/SPOC as soon as possible and no later than September 25th.
If you are studying for your bachelor at the University of Southern Denmark, and you do not expect to complete it before study start, you can apply for permission to follow master study courses without having completed your bachelor programme. You must apply no later than September 15th. Find out how to apply here.
At the University of Southern Denmark, you must register for the courses yourself before the semester begins. You will not be able to register for the courses until 3 days after you have ordered your student card.
You must register for courses in the Student Self Service portal. The deadlines are August 31 for autumn courses, and January 31 for courses in the spring semester.
On itslearning you will find book lists for all of the courses you will be taking in the upcoming semester. The book lists are usually released a few weeks before the start of the semester.
Ask your teachers for advice
It is always a good idea to ask your teachers for advice on which literature you must make a priority to buy and which literature is considered to be of secondary importance and which you may not necessarily need to buy.
SDU has its own bookshop
The university has its own bookshop. Sometimes you may also be able to loan the books you need from the university library, or buy them second-hand from older students.
As a student at the University of Southern Denmark, you are responsible for keeping yourself updated on the rules of examinations, including exam registration and deregistration. You must know all applicable regulations and the university’s requirements for academic practice in relation to exam assignments. Read more about general examination regulations.
Do you know what student activity means?
As a university student, you must register for courses and exams yourself and you must pass a specific amount of ECTS every year. In addition to this, you must also complete your study programme within a specific period of time, and there are clearly defined rules for leaves of absence, among other things. Knowing the rules and keeping yourself updated on the university’s rules on student activity is your obligation. Read more about student activity.

Please remember that it is your responsibility to stay updated on changes to your timetable, exam schedules, etc.
If you did, what to do next depends on whether you completed your previous study programme or not.
Did you not complete your master's programme?
If you were previously admitted to a master's programme and you did not complete it, you must apply for credit transfer. This means that the courses which you have previously passed can be included in your new study programme, reducing the length of your new study programme proportionally.
Did you complete your master's programme?
If you have previously completed a master's programme, you may apply for credits.
