How important is your choice of electives?
Are you about to choose electives or courses? In most studies, you get the opportunity make your own mark on the courses you have. It’s your chance to make or tone your own profile.
So now you need to think about what you want to use your electives for. Do you want to dive deeper into interesting subjects? Do you want to learn something entirely new and gain new competences? Do you want to learn something specific that you want to utilize in your work life? Now is your chance.
Most employers will not take specific notice of the courses you have had. However, you might have had a course that have given you specific skills or knowledge within a field, and that could be your ticket to the job. Do you have some idea of what you want to work with? Then it might be a good idea to look for courses that will take you in that direction.
Do you want to take yourself in a certain direction, but does your study not offer any courses that fit you? Must studies offer their own electives, but they will often allow you to take courses from other studies or universities. Does that sound exciting? Ask your academic advisor or student counselor about your opportunities.
