Credit

Have you passed courses at another education, which you did not complete, then you must apply for credit transfer
If you have previously passed parts of an education (one or more courses), which you did not complete, you are obliged to apply for credits transfer. This is a legal requirement.

You should apply for start credit as soon as possible and no later than October 1 (if you are admitted by September 1) or March 1 (if you are admitted by February 1) of the year of your admission. The reason for this is that you may be eligible for start credit for courses as early as the first semester. You should apply via SPOC and select the form: Application for start credit.

Have you completed another education, then you can apply for credit transfer
If you have already completed an entire education, you can choose to apply for credit. This could be for individual courses or entire semesters. This way, you may be able to shorten the duration of your new education. It may be relevant for you to create an individual study plan once you know which credits you have received.

How to apply for credit transfer
You need to submit the following with your application:

  • Specify the education you have previously been enrolled in
  • Include course descriptions for the courses you have passed
  • Upload transcripts for the completed courses
  • Apply to your study board via SPOC and select the form: Application for credit transfer/start credit
  • Some programs may have additional requirements for the application. If so, this information will be provided further down on this page."

If you want to complete courses from another education or another university, for example, in connection with studying abroad, you need to apply for pre-approved credits (forhåndsmerit). The course must be pre-approved by the study board before the enrollment, as otherwise, you cannot be certain that the course will be included in your education.

Before you apply for pre-approval of credit
The processing of your application can take up to three months. To make sure the Study Board can process your application, you must apply in good time before the course starts.

Before you apply, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the structure of the programme. Here you get e.g. an overview of how many optional elements are included in your education and recommendations for when it is most appropriate to study abroad.

The content of the course must be comparable to the content of your education at SDU.

  • If you want a pre-approval of credit for compulsory courses, the courses must be in line with the course description of the compulsory course
  • If you want a pre-approval of credit for elective courses, there are fewer restrictions, but the credited courses must also fall within the framework of the electives
  • It may also be recommendable that you apply for pre-approval of credit or added several different options and combinations in the application, if you do not get your first wish fulfilled

How to apply for pre-approval of credit
In the application you must:

  • Specify which course(s) you plan to follow at another education or institution
  • State which course(s) in your education for which you are applying for pre-approval of credit
  • Include course descriptions for the courses you wish to follow, at another education or institution
  • Apply to your study board via SPOC and select the form: Application for advance credit

If the Study Broad approves your application
If the Study Broad approves your application, you must do one of the following things:

  • if it is a course at another university, you must contact the university to be registered. You will find information about this on the other university's website
  • if it is course at SDU, you must send the approval from the Study Board to Educational Law & Registration via SPOC. If there are available space and you meet any entry requirements of the course, you will be allowed to follow the course as an internal guest student. Students at SDU will receive answers via their student email

When you have passed the course, you must send your transcript to Educational Law & Registration via SPOC. Remember to send a grade scale if you have studied abroad. You will then receive the credit.

If the courses are not created or you are not admitted, you must apply for a change of your pre-approval as soon as possible.

If you do not agree with the decision of the Study Board, you have the opportunity to appeal. It will be stated in the decision how you can complain. If you want to complain about the professional assessment, you must bring the complaint before a merit board of appeal (meritankenævn), whereas complaints about legal matters must be brought before the vice-chancellor. You will find appeal instructions in the decision from the Study Board.
