Project-oriented study

Prepare your third semester in good time!

There are a lot of things to plan in connection with an Project-oriented study. Therefore, you should prepare yourself in good time. Read the course description carefully and find more information and examples of successful, previous assignments below.

What are your options at third semester?

At third semester, you can choose between the following two options (see also the curriculum):

  1. Project-oriented study within a company/organization/NGO ( 15 ECTS) in Denmark or abroad + 2 elective courses, e.g. Project Management (7.5 ECTS) or Understanding the Senses in Society (7.5 ECTS) or Advanced Evaluation Methods and Theories (7.5 ECTS) or other elective courses. You can choose between 5, 7.5 and 15 ECTS Internships. If you choose a 7.5 ECTS Project-oriented study, you must supplement with one 7.5 elective course (at Campus Esbjerg or elsewhere).
  2. Elective courses (in total 30 ECTS, at Campus Esbjerg or elsewhere) e.g. Project Management (7.5 ECTS), Understanding the Senses in Society (7.5 ECTS), Advanced Evaluation Methods and Theories (7.5 ECTS), Corporate Social Responsibility: Stakeholders, Strategy and Practice (7.5 ECTS) or other.

How to organize your Project-oriented study

Notice that, when organizing your Project-oriented study, you have to follow the course description, that is:

”The student must him or herself find a university supervisor among the university teachers. 10 ECTS are allocated to work in the organization. This corresponds to approx. 270 working hours or approx. 7 weeks of full-time work (37 hours per week). The student and the organization can agree upon a longer project-oriented study, and the number of working hours per week is flexible. The student is expected to find, contact and make an agreement with a relevant organization. The agreement has to be accepted by the supervisor ahead of the final agreement with the organization. The conditions are to be agreed upon between the student and the contact person in the organization. It is not allowed to receive salary from the organization. A formal agreement should be made between the student and a contact person from the organization, making clear the aim and content of the project-oriented study and specifying how the work should be organized. The agreement should also make clear which kind of products are expected by the organization. An agreement form can be downloaded from the homepage of the study program. If the project-oriented study runs longer than first of November, it must be stated in the agreement that the student after first of November has the opportunity to follow university courses, according to their timetables”.

If you for have chosen a 15 ECTS Project-oriented study and work more than 270 hours, it is not a demand from the side of the university. Besides, as mentioned above, it will always be an opportunity to stretch the period by working less hours per week.

Guidelines

First, you must find a supervisor. You will find the list of supervisors here. Then contact the supervisor, you have selected.

Together with the supervisor, you must complete a Student agreement regarding Project oriented study with the organization, concerning e.g. purpose, content, how the internship is organized and which products should be delivered (cf. the course description). Find the agreement here. The agreement must be signed by the organization and the student.

When the Student agreement regarding Project oriented study has been signed, you must also complete an Application for approval of Project oriented study to Student Service Esbjerg, in order to have your Study agreement approved. Find the agreement here. The agreement must be signed by the organization, the student and the supervisor.

The Student agreement regarding Project oriented study and the Application for approval of  Project oriented study must be submitted to Student Service in Esbjerg (studieservice-es@sdu.dk) 3 weeks before the start of the Project oriented study, at latest.

EARLY START: Notice that it is possible to start your Project oriented study BEFORE first of September/at semester start, however no earlier that first of July. If you are an early starter, you have to find a supervisor who will be willing to supervise you before the start of the semester.
