As a student you can take part in research projects in various ways – besides as part of your bachelor project or thesis work, which must be based on relevant research. If you need an overview of research activities at the Faculty of Engineering, you can find some of them here.
If you want to learn more or maybe be involved in current research projects, it is a good idea to start by contacting your professor. You can also contact one or more of the faculty’s research sections – you find a list of them here as well as descriptions of activities in each section and contact information.
A third option could be to contact TEK Innovation who may also be able to help in matters related to research activities at SDU and collaboration with companies.
Engineering degrees built on solid research at a high international level
The engineering programmes at SDU are based on the engineering education model DSMI where teaching is based on the interplay between courses, project work and group work in a research-based context. All teaching is rooted in active research environments and usually researchers also function as lectures – although up to 20 per cent of the teaching are conducted by external lecturers or guest lecturers from the business sector to ensure a connection to the field of practice.
The level of research-based and knowledge-based teaching on the individual engineering programmes is followed up on once a year. Read more about this in the description of curriculum development and quality at the Faculty of Engineering.
Master students have, in addition to studying on the research-based master programme, the opportunity to participate in research activities either in connection with the thesis work or as part of an individually approved study activity with a scope of up to 5 ECTS. The activities must provide the student with an opportunity to prepare a scientific article, with focus on theory and/or practice, which may be accepted for publishing in a relevant journal, at a relevant conference or similar.
