Your Guide to a Smooth Start at University

Before you delve into your new studies, there are a few practical and administrative things you need to sort out.

This guide will help you get off to a good start so you can focus on your studies from day one.

1. Get Access to SDU’s IT Systems

Once you have ordered your student card, you need to activate your SDU account.

Your SDU account gives you access to:

  • ItslearningSDU’s learning platform, where you’ll find course materials, reading lists, and be able to communicate with lecturers and fellow students.
  • SDUmail (Outlook)Your official SDU email address. This is where all important communication from the university, your instructors, and student advisors will appear. Check your SDUmail regularly — preferably daily.
  • SDU Student Self-Service: An online platform where you register for courses and exams and can view your exam results.

Easy access to SDU's essential IT systems is available on MySDU under the 'Links' menu item.

If you completed your bachelor’s at SDU, you’ll use the same login.

2. Register for First Semester Courses

You need to register for your courses yourself . You do this on SDU Student Self-Service. Be sure to only register for the courses you'll be taking in your first semester.

You can see which courses you need to take under the menu item Programme Structure on MySDU.

3. Find Your Timetable

Your timetable is available via Itslearning under "Calendar". It’s important to check your timetable regularly, as changes may occur.

4. Get Ready for Master’s Programme

Complete the online course  MA Introduction Course. This course is a great preparation for starting your studies and answers many of the questions you might have. You’ll find the course on Itslearning along with your other courses.

5. Apply for Transfer Credits (Starting Credit)

If you've previously studied another master’s programme but not completing it, you must apply for credit transfer. This is a legal requirement and means that courses you’ve passed in your previous programme may be incorporated into your new programme, making it correspondingly shorter.

If you have previously completed another master’s programme, it is optional to apply for credit transfer.
