Exams

An examination is a pedagogical exercise, where you are expected to show all of what you have learned in a short time.

Exams have various forms at Humanities such as:

  • Written assignments to be handed in during the semester. These are often called portfolio evaluations or digital portfolio.
  • Major written assignments of which you may sometimes choose the subject yourself. Major written assignments may be prepared individually or in groups.
  • Oral exams where in some cases you draw a question and must present it to and discuss it with the examiner and a second internal or external examiner.
  • 80 % active participation is a frequently used type of exam. Sometimes the 80 % active participation is also used as a precondition - i.e. you must have actively participated in 80 % of the course to be allowed to attend the exam.

It may be a good idea to find out which types of exams your courses have from the beginning of each semester – check out your course descriptions. That way you'll be able to prepare yourself for the exams all through the semester. E. g. the ways of taking notes may vary depending on whether you have to pass the course by writing an assignment or doing an oral exam.
