Requirements and Recommendations for Your IT Equipment
As a student at SDU, you must have IT equipment that meets the general minimum requirements. This is a prerequisite for being able to take exams at SDU.
Additionally, your study program may have further and more specific requirements for equipment or software that you also need to be aware of.
General Minimum Requirements for Your Computer
- PC - Windows 11 with the Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome internet browser
- Mac - Latest version of macOS or one of the two preceding versions with the Safari or Google Chrome internet browser
- Memory - 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
It is generally recommended that your operating system (Windows or macOS) and your installed programs are always updated to the latest versions with the newest security updates.
Chromebooks are not recommended as they cannot be used for exams at SDU.
SDU does not recommend Linux as a standard platform. If you choose to use Linux, you are responsible for ensuring that the computer can be used for teaching, assignments, and exams. If Linux does not support the necessary programs or functions, you must instead use a computer that meets SDU's requirements for PC or Mac.
Study-Specific Requirements for Your Computer
The general minimum requirements apply to all students, but they may not necessarily be sufficient for all study programs. Your study program may, for example, require specific software, special programs, or higher performance because it is necessary for teaching or assignments in your particular program.
For most study programs, SDU's general minimum requirements will be sufficient. However, for more technical programs, there may be specific requirements, for example, if the computer is to be used for programming, calculations, development tools, or subject-specific software. In such cases, there may be requirements for the operating system, performance, and the computer's technical specifications.
Therefore, we recommend that you always check the requirements for your specific study program on your study page or contact your study secretary before purchasing new IT equipment.

Computers Owned or Managed by Other Organizations
If you use a computer owned or managed by another organization, such as a workplace, municipality, region, or another educational institution, the computer may be subject to security policies and technical restrictions that SDU has no influence over. This may mean that you cannot install necessary software, change settings, use certain programs, or access functions required for teaching or exams.
We therefore recommend that you use a computer where you have the necessary rights and that is not restricted by other organizations' security policies. This minimizes the risk of technical problems in connection with teaching and exams.
