New student at SDU

Read this guide carefully - it´s about your SU

New Student

MinSU is the name of the self-service at SU.dk.

Here you can apply for the State Education Grant and Loan Scheme (in Denmark known by its acronym ‘SU’) for your new course of study, view information about your SU and make any necessary changes. To use the system, you must use NemID.

At minSU you can, among other things:

  • Apply for and deselect SU and student loans (‘SU loans’)
  • Get an overview of your SU, end date etc.
  • Extend your course of study
  • Follow your study progress
  • Apply for extra monthly grants due to childbirth
  • Apply for the addition of monthly grants

Apply for your SU after the 1st of January

When you start studies in February, you must first apply for your SU from February onwards - this can be done after the 1st of January.

You must be admitted and have accepted a student place before applying for SU.

How do you apply for SU?

You apply via www.su.dk.

Become familiar with the conditions for receiving SU

When you receive SU, it is your own responsibility to know and comply with the SU rules and conditions. Read more about the SU conditions.

Apply for your SU after the 1st of August

When you start studies in September, you must first apply for your SU from September onwards - this can be done after the 1st of August.

When determining whether you are eligible for SU and the grant rate should reflect whether you live with your parents or on your own, the decisive factor is your place of residence on the first day of the month.
We receive address changes directly from the Civil Registration System, so your SU will therefore be adjusted within 14 days from your moving date – cf. the link on residence and SU rates
Therefore, you need to make sure that your details recorded in the National Register of Persons are correct.

You must attend at least one exam in you first exam period.
The compulsory study start test does not count as an exam in this context.
The review is carried out by the local SU-office at SDU.

To be eligible for SU, you must be actively studying on an ongoing basis.

We carry out activity checks twice a year in March and October.
You must not be delayed by more than 30 ECTS credits (calculated as the difference between the number of monthly grants paid out to you and the number of ECTS credits earned. To check your study progress, please go to MinSU – View your SU – Study progress (Danish: MinSU – Se din SU – Studiefremdrift).

The SU Office at SDU automatically receives notification of your tax matters.
If you want to change which tax card SU uses, you must change it on minSU – Change your SU – TAX (in Danish: minSU – Ret din SU – SKAT).

Please always direct any questions regarding your tax matters to SKAT.

If you receive SU, the agency and your possible employer(s) may retrieve and use your primary tax card from SKAT simultaneously. Your employer(s) should therefore never experience any problems requisitioning your tax card – even if the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science is registered as the user. In the event that you are informed that the Agency is ‘holding on to your primary tax card’, it is your employer(s) and SKAT who must sort out the problem among themselves. Everything happens digitally, and we can neither ‘hold on to’ nor ‘release’ a tax card.

You can apply for a discount for transport between your place of residence and place of study at www.ungdomskort.dk. You can apply when your enrolment is visible. It will only become visible 1-2 days after you have accepted your study place.

The production time for a card is at least 14 days, so make sure to order yours well in advance. A quicker option is to receive your card in a DSB app.

In some cases, you may apply for mileage allowance instead of an Ungdomskort. For more information, please see the eligibility conditions for mileage allowance.
