Starting credits Engineering

What are Starting Credits and how do you apply?

If you have been admitted to a BSc (Eng) or BEng study programme and have previously passed courses from a bachelor’s or a professional bachelor’s programme, you must apply for credit transfer for relevant courses.

If you have been admitted to a MSc (Eng) study programme, and have previously passed courses from a Master’s programme, you must apply for credit transfer for relevant courses.

If your application, the courses you have already passed will be included in your new programme and will replace either obligatory or elective courses.

Which Courses Can You Receive Starting Credits for?

You can only receive credit transfer for courses that are relevant on your new study programme. Before applying, it is a good idea to review the structure of your new programme and consider which of your previous courses may fit. You find your new curriculum here.

Please note that in some cases you may be granted credit transfer for courses even if you have not applied for them.

When is the Deadline to Apply?

You should apply for credit transfer for starting credits as soon as possible after your admission and no later than 1 October (study start in September) / 1 March (study start in February).

How to Apply?

  • Log in on https://spoc.sdu.dk and choose Study board -> Credit Transfer
  • Complete in the application form
    • Courses passed in Denmark: “TECH Application for Credit Transfer of Courses Passed in Denmark”
    • Courses passed in other countries: “TECH Application for Credit Transfer of Courses Passed Abroad”
  • List all the courses you have passed on the left-hand side of the form
  • List all the courses you wish to have replaced on your new study programme, on the right-hand side of the form
  • Remember to attach documentation if the courses were not completed at SDU:
  1. Course descriptions for all passed courses as PDF files. Links are not sufficient; the full text must be included in the PDF files.
  2. Transcript of records for the passed courses. The transcript must be verified, meaning signed and stamped, or provided as a certified PDF.

You upload the files by clicking “Browse”, then “upload file” and then “ok”.

Processing of Your Application

If any information or documentation is missing

If any information or documentation is missing, the Secretariat of the Academic Board will contact you via your SDU-mail. Once they have received all necessary information, your application will be processed at the next coming meeting of the Academic Study Board.

When Will You Receive a Decision?

After your application has been processed by the Academic Study Board, you can expect to receive the decision in your SDU-mail within 20 working days. The result will also be visible SDU student self service (https://sso.sdu.dk) a couple of weeks later.

Should you have any questions about the application process, please contact Counselling and Study Support via https://spoc.sdu.dk

What happens if you do NOT apply for starting credits?

If you have previously passed relevant courses and do not apply for credit transfer, this may be considered a breach of the Disciplinary Measures of SDU.
