The possibility for re-examination (second and third attempt)
If you do not pass the ordinary exam, or if you do not attend the ordinary exam, you can register for re-examination (second and third exam attempt). You do this via SDU student self-service.
Deadlines for re-exams and exam periods
In programmes with an examination period at the end of the autumn semester, students who did not pass the standard exam can register for re-examination (2nd exam attempt) during the same examination period or in immediate extension hereof, though no later than the last weekday in April.
In programmes with an examination period at the end of the spring semester, students who did not pass the standard exam can register for re-examination (2nd exam attempt) during the same examination period or in immediate extension hereof, though no later than the last weekday in August.
In programmes with more examination periods than those listed above, students who have not passed the standard exam can register for re-examination (2nd exam attempt) though no later than six months after the standard exam was held.
Students who did not pass or take part in a re-examination can register for the exam next time it is offered as a standard exam.
It might be established in the programme regulations that there is a compulsory registration for exams in subjects when these are offered for the last time.
Deadline for registration for re-examinations in programmes using the quarter system
If you are in a programme which not only holds exams during winter and/or summer, but also during autumn and spring, such as programmes on a quarter structure, the re-examination will take place as soon as possible and no later than 6 months after the standard exam was held.
You need to be aware that many programmes hold the standard exam in the course once a year - right after the course has finished. Therefore, in many cases it will be almost a year before you can take a standard exam again. This will typically be the case for your third exam attempt. You can always receive help and guidance from your programme about when exams will be held and what your options are.

Do you want a re-examination during the same semester as your normal examination?
You will always be offered the possibility of a second exam attempt during the same semester as your normal exam. The offer of a second exam attempt can be placed during the subsequent semester, as the so-called examination period stretches beyond the end of the semester. See here:
- For normal examinations given during the Autumn semester ( Sep. 1 - Jan. 31.] There will be the possibility of a second exam attempt at the latest on the last weekday in August
- For normal examinations given during the Spring semester ( Feb. 1 - Aug. 31): There will be the possibility of a second exam attempt at the latest on the last weekday in August
Please note! Some programmes have a different structure and can have different exam periods than those described here. In this case, the offer for your second exam attempt will be made as soon as possible - or no later than 6 months after the standard exam was held.
Some programmes have subjects where you are offered both second and third exam attempts within the same semester as the standard exam.
Study your programme regulations to find out what your situation is or talk to an adviser in your programme.
Do you want a re-examination during another semester?
Then you can register for the test next time the exam is offered as a standard exam.
Please note that if a subject is offered for the last time, there might be compulsory and automatic registration for re-taking the exam.

Do you want a fourth examination attempt?
As a rule, you only have three exam attempts. If you have not passed in your third attempt, you will accordingly be expelled.
You can apply for dispensation for an extra exam attempt if there, for instance, were extraordinary circumstances in regard to one or more of your exam attempts. See the rules for dispensation here or contact your adviser.
