Check-in/Check-out

Check-in: Aligning expectations
Begin your study group meeting with a brief check-in where everyone shares their expectations. There are no right or wrong answers—the purpose is simply to understand what matters most to each participant.

Limit the check-in to 1 minute per person by asking one or two questions:

  • What do you hope to gain from today’s meeting?
  • What are two things you would like addressed today?
  • What feels most important to get done?

Capture expectations on post-its or a flip chart to revisit during the session.

Check-out: Wrap it up
End the meeting with a short check-out to reflect on takeaways and evaluate the session. This helps highlight key points and ideas.

Spend about 5 minutes, giving each participant up to 1 minute to respond.

Possible questions:

  • What stands out as the most important takeaway?
  • What two things are you leaving with—or still missing?
  • What would you like to see done differently next time?

If you began with a check-in, compare your actual outcomes with your starting expectations.
