Where and when?

The introduction and orientation days will take place on 26, 27 and 31 August 2026—the latter is specifically for newly arrived international students. 1 September 2026 is the first possible day for scheduled teaching activities.

  • During these two days, you will meet your fellow students and teachers and get to know more about your degree programme and your campus. You will also meet several local companies who are eager to meet you. For lunch you will be able to either buy food in the cafeteria or bring your own food.

    Participation is free of charge, but registration is required no later than 22 August 2026.

  • This orientation day is specifically for newly arrived international students, i.e. students who did not have a Danish personal identification number (CPR number) at the time of admission to the university. Among other things, we will provide information about practical matters related to moving to Denmark and registering with the Danish authorities.

    We will meet in room 31.02.

Preparation


Get off to a good start in your first days of study by preparing for the mandatory study start test, refreshing your math skills, and finding out if you need to apply for starting credits for previously completed courses.

  • We offer new students in the master’s programme in data science a short refresher course in mathematics, at the level taught in upper secondary schools in Denmark. Selected topics will be covered to help you refresh the mathematical background expected for the programme. Participation in the course is free of charge, and there are no tests or exam.

    Teaching takes place over the three weekends in August (8-9, 15-16, and 22-23 August) at SDU Odense. Each weekend consists of lectures as well as problem-solving sessions and worked examples.

    The teaching will be livestreamed, allowing you to take part without attending in person. However, we strongly recommend physical attendance, as our experience shows that students gain considerably more from the course when they are present on campus.

  • As a new graduate student, you must pass a study start test. You will not be tested on academic knowledge—the purpose of the study start test is simply to confirm that you have started the programme. If you do not pass the study start test, you will be dismissed from the programme

    You pass the study start test by attending the mandatory study start introductory meeting at the beginning of the 1st semester. The exact time and location are stated in your timetable in itslearning.

    You have two attempts to pass the study start test. If you do not attend the mandatory study start introduction, this will count as a used examination attempt. You will then automatically be registered for the second examination attempt, which will be held in the same way. The exact time and location will be stated in your timetable in itslearning.

    If you do not participate in the study start test or fail to pass by the 2nd attempt, you will be dismissed from the programme.

  • If you are enrolled in a master’s programme and have previously completed courses within another master’s programme without completing the programme, you must apply for starting credits for those courses.

    If you have previously completed a full master’s programme, you may apply for credit transfer for one or more courses, but you are not required to do so.
