There are several situations where it may be relevant to take the courses in a different order than the one planned in your programme course. For example, you may:
- received credit for a number of subjects. You will therefore get semesters where you have fewer courses than usual and want to use the free space to take courses that are placed later in the education, so you can shorten the education in terms of time.
- are delayed in your education. For example, you may have failed several exams or have been ill for a long period of time.
- have been on maternity leave.
- want to move some courses around. For example, you may want to take more courses than expected in one or more semesters in order to reduce the study intensity in a later semester.
Make a plan of which courses you will take when
If you want to take courses in a different order than the one specified in the programme course, it is a good idea to make a plan of which courses you take when. In your course model, you can get a comprehensive overview of the courses you will have on your education.
6 things you should be aware of when following an individual study plan
Programmes are adjusted continuously. If you are absent there is a chance that you will no longer be able to attend lectures in the courses that you are missing, that the course has been moved to another time of year etc.
If changes to a course occurs, e.g. to examination requirements or the syllabus, you must follow the newest version of the course. Keep yourself up to date in the course descriptions.
Take a look in your process model to check if there is an academic progression in your programme you need to take into consideration.
Are you missing an examination from a previous semester? You decide yourself, whether you would like to attend the lectures again or just take the examination. If you failed the examination, it may be a good idea to attend the lecutres again. See the examination rules and regulations.
If you are enroled in courses from different semesters, there may be an overlap in lecture times.
If you are enroled in courses from different semesters, there may be an overlap in lecture times. If that is the case you need to prioritize which lectures are that most important to attend.
If you are delayed in your programme, you need to make sure that you comply with the Active Enrolment Requirements and Maximum Period of Study to be able to finish your programme. If you do not comply with the rules, you must apply for an exemption.
