Study start in artificial intelligence (BSc)

In itslearning, you can meet your mentors during August.

You can, among other things, quiz yourself smarter on various topics related to the start of your studies, and you can chat with your future fellow students and ask questions to the mentors.

To log in to itslearning, you must complete the steps in your admission letter so that you have a username and password for SDU’s IT systems. After this, you can log in to itslearning and find the course room “SDU Vejle, Community”.

As a new student, you must pass a study start exam. The purpose of the study start exam is to confirm that you have actually begun the programme.

It consists of documented physical attendance on campus and an electronic test. The electronic test is based on the first week of teaching and on preparatory material available in itslearning. You are welcome to review the material before the start of your studies if you would like an early overview, but it will also be possible to work with the material after the programme has begun.

You have two attempts to pass the study start exam, but passing should not be a problem if you actively participate in the teaching.

The study start exam must be completed no later than 5 September 2026. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you will have the opportunity to take a re-examination. The second attempt takes place the following week.

If you are enrolled in a bachelor’s programme and have previously completed courses within another bachelor’s programme without completing the programme, you must apply for starting credits for those courses.

If you have previously completed a full bachelor’s programme, you may apply for credit transfer for one or more courses, but you are not required to do so.

We have collected some information that can help you get off to a good start with your teaching and your first examinations.

Study start exam

The study start exam must document that you have actually started the programme, and consists of documented physical attendance on campus and an electronic test based on the first week of teaching. You only have two attempts to pass the study start exam, but passing is not a problem if you actively participate in the teaching.

The study start exam must be completed no later than 6 September 2026. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you will have the opportunity to take a re-examination. The second attempt takes place the following week.

If you do not participate in the study start exam or do not pass in your second attempt at the latest, you cannot continue on the programme.

Course identification codes

Each course has a code consisting of 2-3 initial letters followed by a number, for example DMV503 or NATV500. You will quickly become familiar with these course identification codes. Each course identification code refers to a specific course, and you can see it in your timetable.

Teaching methods

You will encounter several different types of teaching, ranging from lectures to laboratory exercises and study group sessions.

Core classes and study groups

During your first academic year, you will belong to a core class called, for example, H5 or H12. The class is your base during the first year of your studies. You will be informed about which core class you belong to during the introduction day. It is not possible to change core classes.

In addition, you will become part of a study group with approximately four other students from your core class. In the study group, you will solve specific assignments, discuss the syllabus, prepare presentations, and much more. Your study group is a working community that helps you develop good study habits and close relationships with your fellow students. Your engagement in the study group helps provide a strong foundation for the rest of your studies.

Course and examination registration

As a new student, you are automatically registered for all courses during your first semester. After the first semester, you must register yourself for 30 ECTS credits during each of the two annual registration periods. You will receive an email when this becomes relevant for you.

When you register for a course, you are automatically also registered for your first examination attempt.

The common thread throughout your education

As a new student in a degree programme at the Faculty of Science, you will experience that we continuously focus on the competences you develop. These include academic, personal, academic-professional, and professional competences that not only make you a stronger student semester by semester, but also demonstrate how what you learn can be applied outside the university in student jobs and similar contexts.

We work to create a common thread throughout your education so that you experience a sense of meaning and mastery, and to ensure that you are prepared to enter the labour market later on.

Through workshops and selected courses under the title “My Competence Portfolio”, you will gain a better understanding of yourself and your academic and personal development.

First-year examination

The first-year examination is not a single examination, but consists of a number of examinations that you must pass during your first academic year in order to continue on the programme.

Your education is a full-time study programme

The workload may vary from week to week, but on average you can expect around 20-25 hours of scheduled teaching per week. In addition, you should plan to spend approximately 20 hours per week on preparation and coursework.

Teaching times may also vary from week to week. As a general rule, classes can be scheduled on weekdays between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

You are not insured by the university

We encourage you to take out accident insurance yourself that covers you if you are injured in connection with teaching activities.
