“Two souls, alas, are housed within my breast!” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust, Part One.
Sometimes the best way to understand the present is to revisit the classics. More than 200 years after its publication, Goethe’s Faust I remains strikingly relevant. The drama explores the struggle between good and evil, the seduction of power, the allure of immoral bargains, and the consequences of unchecked ambition.
Can literature and theatre help us make sense of contemporary politics and society?
