Rules for the use of generative AI in examinations

The rules for the use of generative artificial intelligence in examinations have been updated and replace the previously applicable guidelines, which were announced on 29 September 2023. The rules entered into force on 1 September 2024.

What are the general rules?

It is permitted to use generative AI when completing written take-home assignments, including bachelor's projects, graduation projects and master’s theses, provided that this is clearly indicated.

It is not permitted to use generative AI in connection with written site tests, other supervised exams or in connection with oral tests.

Any exceptions will be stated in the course description.

What’s new?

Needs may vary from class to class or exam to exam. Therefore, the updated rules allow for a specific assessment in the course as to whether generative AI can be used in examinations. If it is necessary to deviate from the general rules, this will be stated in the course description in question.
