Why have you chosen to run?
I have chosen to run for the university election because I believe it is important for students to have a voice in the various councils. I also think it is important that we have an election and can openly discuss some of the challenges students face, which is not possible if there is an uncontested election. I especially want to run to represent students who find it difficult to fit into university life and who find studying at SDU cumbersome and stressful. Often, I think many from non-academic backgrounds, like myself, find it a bit harder to fit into everything.
Is there a specific cause you want to fight for if you are elected?
I want to fight against students being overly stressed by strange IT systems and bureaucracy. In my program, everyone signs up for re-exams every year before they know if they need to take them. It is a strange system because if you have to sign up beforehand anyway, you might as well be registered along with the course. The university also automatically deregisters those who do not need to take the exam. But what it does is it causes a lot of stress for students who forget to sign up. This is just one of several examples where students have a lot of unnecessary burdens to think about, which can take their energy away from studying.
What can be expected from you as a student representative?
You can expect that I will listen to students who are struggling and bring their concerns into the closed rooms. I have already been on the academic council for 1 ½ years where I have learned a lot about what it means, so I am better able to make the students' voices heard. You can expect that I will fight for the green cause. Finally, I want to say that you can expect that I have respect for teaching and research and I will support free research and research that is not driven by money and political agendas.
