DIAS Wild Wednesday: The Data Crisis in Web Research: Past, Present, Future

About the lecture
Web and social media research has become increasingly important in the scientific community. For example, nearly all foundation models are trained in part with web data. And yet, data access has never been more difficult, making it harder to understand digital media’s impact on public discourse, scientific communication, interpersonal relations, and other societal functions. This keynote will explore how we arrived at this point, what researchers are currently experiencing in the contemporary data access regime, and whether regulation through DSA Article 40 provides any hope for researchers globally.
