In just under a year, around DKK 550,000 has been distributed from the Student Activity Support Pool to student-run initiatives at SDU.
"Just like in society in general, we see that after some tough years during and after Covid-19, community life at SDU is flourishing. This development is certainly also helped by the opportunity to apply for financial support from the Student Activity Support Pool," says Rikke Winther Revsholm, head of section, Student Services, SDU Education/education/programme/course of study.
Foreningen Studerendes Almene Kirurgiske Selskab (SAKS) is one of the organisations that has received support from the Student Activity Support Pool. In the autumn, they held a presentation event with para-athlete Emilie Aaen, who was 19 years old, a gymnast and on the national team when she was badly injured and had to have her leg amputated. She has since gone on to have a meteoric career in the long jump and participated in the 2024 Paralympic Games. The presentation focused on the master's thesis of orthopaedic surgery, but also on the mental mindset of turning adversity into something positive and finding the strength for life despite challenges.
"It is of great importance that the Student Activity Support Pool has contributed to spreading the word to other students in the form of the lecture with Emilie Aaen. A lecture we have wanted to organise for several years and which was made possible with financial support from the Student Activity Support Pool. Both medical students and students from other fields of study/degree programmes participated. We met across subjects and had the opportunity to create inspiration, professional insight and community between the students." Kathrine Holgersen, Stud.med. Chair, SAKS Odense.
