Illness and exams

If you fall ill during the semester and cannot prepare for or participate in the exam, you must apply to be deregistered from the exam, before the exam starts. 

In order to have the exam attempt cancelled, you must document your illness. The documentation can be a doctor’s certificate, a specialist certificate, a statement from a licensed psychologist or a statement from a hospital. 

Apply the Study Board for an exemption to be deregistered from the exam to your board of studies via the system SPOC. If your application is approved, you will not use an exam attempt.

If you fall ill on the day of the exam, before the exam starts, or before the submission deadline for a written exam expires, you can apply to have the exam attempt cancelled via SPOC.

In order to have the exam attempt cancelled, you must document your illness. You must therefore contact your doctor as soon as possible so that your doctor can document that you were ill on the day of the exam.

The documentation can be a doctor’s certificate, a specialist certificate, a statement from a licensed psychologist or a statement from a hospital.  

If your notification of illness is approved, you will not use an exam attempt. 

If you fall ill during an oral exam, you must notify your examiner that you wish to interrupt the exam due to illness. You must then apply to have the exam attempt cancelled via SPOC.

If you fall ill during a written exam under invigilation, you must notify the exam invigilator that you wish to leave the exam due to illness. You must then apply to have the exam attempt cancelled via SPOC.  

In order to have the exam attempt cancelled, you must document your illness. You must therefore contact your doctor as soon as possible so that your doctor can document that you were ill on the day of the exam.

You are also not allowed to submit a blank document or click ‘Submit blank’ in the Digital Exam system. If you do, you will use an exam attempt. It is therefore important that you do not submit anything for assessment. 

If you fall ill during a written take-home assignment, you must interrupt your participation in the exam and apply to have the exam attempt cancelled via SPOC.  

In order to have the exam attempt cancelled, you must document your illness. You must therefore contact your doctor as soon as possible so that your doctor can document that you were ill on the day of the exam.
