Special examination conditions

The need for special examination conditions can be due to long-term or temporary circumstances. Special examination conditions can be many different things, e.g.

  • extended time for the exam
  • shielding
  • aids, such as programs, headsets or scanner pens.

The purpose of special exam conditions is to put you on an equal footing with your fellow students, so you can complete the exam on equal terms.

Special examination conditions do not change the academic level or the competence objectives of the course. Therefore, your application may be rejected, even if you have a documented physical or mental disability.

You can apply for special examination conditions for a single exam, for a shorter period (e.g. a semester) or for your entire period of study. Please note that you must apply again if you change your study programme – also from bachelor's to master's programme.

Apply for an exemption for special examination conditions

You can apply the Study Board for an exemption for special examination conditions. The Study Board will assess whether you are entitled to special examination conditions and whether what you are applying for is possible. As a general rule, the special examination conditions will not change the form of exam.

Make sure to send your application well in advance of the exam for which you need the exemption. Otherwise, it may not be possible to provide the special examination conditions you are applying for.

Documentation

You must attach relevant documentation when you apply for special examination conditions, such as an SPS statement on support needs, a dyslexia test or a doctor’s certificate.

You must also explain why your disability means that you have a need for special examination conditions.

If you apply before the 1st of November for winter exams and the 1st of April for summer exams, you can be sure that your exemption will be processed before the exam.

Inform about dispensation

If you have been granted a dispensation for extra preparation time or extra time for the oral exam, you must notify your study secretary no later than 30 days before the exam, so that this can be taken into account in the schedule.

If you have a dispensation for special furniture or any other equipment, you must notify your study secretary no later than 30 days before your exam.

Bring the dispensation decision letter to the exam

If you have been granted a dispensation for special examination conditions, you must bring the dispensation decision from the board of studies to your exam.
