SDU’s Sustainability Academy

In 2021, SDU’s former SDG HUB presented the Sustainability Academy to the University’s students.

SDU’s Sustainability Academy was a non-ECTS yielding academy that took place in week 26 in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Ever since 2021, when the first Sustainability Academy was launched, the form of the academy has been evolving and the three academies have been far from the same.

However, they have all had the same starting point.

The purpose of SDU’s Sustainability Academy was to prepare students for the green transition. This was done through a comprehensive insight into the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which at the time were the focal point of SDU’s sustainable development. 

In addition, the students participated in workshops where they gained insight into how universities, public institutions and private companies are working with the green transition, and they were also given the opportunity to contribute solutions and create positive change for others with others.

  • Held from 28 June to 2 July 2021 at SDU’s campus in Odense (Academy conducted in Danish)
  • Workshops with Tuborg Fondet, Verdens Bedste Nyheder, Citizen Change, Center for Væredygtighed and Roskilde Festival
  • Workshops with climate journalist Gerd Maria May and performance coach, former actor and leadership expert Roxana Kia
  • Workshops with Odense Renovation and Fyens Stiftstidende
  • Lectures from researchers at the University of Southern Denmark
 

  • Held from 27 June to 1 July at SDU’s campus in Kolding (Academy conducted in English
  • Organised in collaboration with Kolding Municipality
  • For students from – and outside – SDU, across faculties, campuses and nationalities. International students from outside SDU were also able to apply if they were part of the EPICUR alliance
  • Focus on the City of the Future based on the UN’s eleventh Sustainable Development Goal, sustainable cities and communities
  • Design innovation workshops
  • Group work with three cases issued by Kolding Municipality, in which students had to propose solutions for making three areas in Kolding Municipality more sustainable and climate friendly
 

  • Held 26 June to 30 June at SDU’s campus in Odense (Academy conducted in English
  • Organised in collaboration with SDU Climate Cluster
  • For students from – and outside – SDU, across faculties, campuses and nationalities. International students from outside SDU were also able to apply if they were part of the EPICUR alliance. The Sustainability Academy was also part of the EPICUR Summer School
  • Focus on the latest UN Climate Report. Researchers from across SDU’s faculties provided interdisciplinary insights into how the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals relate to all sciences
  • Focus on the interdisciplinary approach that is beneficial for climate and sustainability
  • Creative communication workshop in which students had to communicate their hopes, dreams and visions of the future in an innovative way
