AI at SDU BSS

Guidelines for the use of AI

General Guidelines for the Use of AI

You may use generative AI when preparing written assignments, including written assignments with an oral examination, bachelor projects, final projects, and master's theses.

However, you must clearly disclose this (see more under “Disclosure of the Use of Generative AI”). You may not use generative AI in connection with on-site written exams, other supervised exams, or oral exams.

SDU BSS’ supplementary rules for the use of AI
(applicable from spring 2026)

AI can be a valuable tool to support the process of structuring, summarizing, and analysis. However, it is important to emphasize that AI must always be used with care and a critical sense. The intellectual work and the final design of the assignment must ultimately be your own. AI should therefore be seen as a tool for support – not as a substitute for your own reflection, analysis and creativity. In this way, you ensure that the assignment remains an authentic expression of your professional competencies and academic integrity.

The purpose of the faculty's requirements for the use of AI is not to limit your use of AI, but to ensure that your work remains academically credible and transparent.

The general guidelines https://sdunet.dk/en/undervisning-og-eksamen/uddannelse/vejledning/gai describe how the use of AI should be documented in exam contexts. In addition, the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences has adopted some specific requirements that apply at SDU BSS. When you as a student at the faculty use AI in written home assignments, you must unfold your use of AI in three areas.

The rules cover three specific areas of application:

  • Structure
  • Summarizing large amounts of information
  • Analysis and/or interpretation of data, literature, theory, etc.

When you use AI in one of the three areas mentioned, you must – in addition to following the general guidelines at the university – create a dedicated section in the assignment where you describe and reflect on your use of AI.

The reflection should include:

A description of how you have used AI in the preparation of your assignment, including its impact on the problem formulation, argumentation, structure, and/or analyses and discussion.

Considerations regarding the advantages and disadvantages of using AI in the assignment, including a critical assessment of potential bias, so-called “hallucinations” (i.e., AI-generated content that appears credible but is factually incorrect or fabricated), as well as relevant ethical issues.
