MOISL is an interdisciplinary master’s programme, that focuses on international law and security in the context of global conflict.

As an academic master’s program, MOISL takes departure in relevant theories, but it has a strong focus on the practical application of the teaching material to real-life cases, including through simulation games. You can apply for credits through the study board on spoc.sdu.dk, and it will be their decision whether the course is academically relevant to MOISL. Please keep in mind, that you can only apply for credits after you have been officially admitted to the program. If you have previously studied another master’s program, applying for credits will be mandatory. We cannot guarantee in advance which electives will be available in the future, since this is dependent on the availability of professors in any given semester. However, you can get an idea of the types of electives the program tends to cover by reviewing the electives that have been offered previously. Students will be further informed about their elective course options during the first semester.

This varies widely. You can do internships both abroad and in Denmark. It could be at a Danish or a foreign embassy, at a company working with cybersecurity or shipping, or at an NGO fighting torture or advocating for the prevention of gross human rights violations. We have an internship database at MOISL with information on over 250 different internships that students have done previously. This will be made available to students during their first semester. We also always strive to put you in touch with MOISL students who have done the kind of internship you aspire to do. You can see examples the types of jobs that MOISL qualifies for here. Students generally apply for internships in similar fields.
This depends on the internship, as workplaces have different deadlines. As rule of thumb, we recommend that you start applying in January if you want an internship in the fall semester. MOISL has an internship database with information on more than 250 internships previously held by our students, and deadlines for each internship are included. This will be made accessible to students during the first semester. If there is a specific organization you are interested in, it is a good idea to research their deadlines in advance. Each fall, we offer a webinar where older MOISL students share their internship experiences, including when and how to apply.

- Read the “work placement” course description (for 10 or 20 ECTS, respectively). At MOISL, we only offer internships that are either 10 or 20 ECTS points, with the difference being the amount of time you expect to intern – hence the two different course descriptions. Be mindful that these are course descriptions for the spring of 2024, and they could change over time. Make sure to check the updated versions in the future by clicking the “menu” button. The best way for you to assess whether this program is the right fit for you is by researching thoroughly. For this reason, we recommend that you read all relevant information available to you on our website. We also recommend that you attend (either in person or online) the open house event at SDU in February. There are no other open house events during the year.
Yes. The mandatory course “master’s thesis lab” is taught online, and all sessions are recorded to accommodate the students, who will be doing internships in this period.
No. You may however receive a small monthly financial compensation from the internship place to help set off living costs and other expenses. For more exact information on payment and internships, please read the course description for the course “work placement”. This is where you will always find the most updated information. You can find all course descriptions in the “menu” under “courses and schedule”, then click “offered courses”. You can also contact SDU International on spoc.sdu.dk. Keep in mind that this version might be outdated in the future, so make sure to always check the updated course description. Most students do their internships in the fall semester, but the course is also offered in the spring.

Many students have jobs while studying. Make sure to check each semester the schedule of your courses, in particular any mandatory courses, before making commitments to your student job.
Some of the courses require mandatory attendance, while others do not. To best be able to assess whether the attendance requirements will work for you, please check the course descriptions for each individual course to read up on the attendance requirements. You can find the specific information under the course descriptions.

Questions about admission
Prior to applying, many students understandably have questions about admission. Examples of such questions are:
