Useful information and links to start your Student life at SDU Sønderborg

It is important that you order your student card as soon as possible. 

Order your student card here.

Bachelor's and Master's student: You will receive your student card during study start.

Lifelong learning student: Your student card will be sent to your address as listed in the Danish national register.

 

As a student at SDU, you have access to the IT facilities provided by SDU. This includes your student mail address, the Student Self Service portal and the e-learn platfom itslearning.

We do  expect you to check your student mail regularly and itslearning daily regarding your lectures etc.

How to enter SDU's digital Universe?

An e-mail with detailed information about the IT facilities of SDU will be send to you via the mail address you stated in your application.

In case you have not received this mail within 1-2 weeks, please contact our Helpdesk.

As a student at SDU, you need to keep yourself updated on the rules of examinations, exam registration and de-registration.

You must know all applicable regulations and the university's requirements for academic practice in relation to examination assignments.

Do you know what study activity means?

All our students must register and pass a specific amount of ECTS each year. In addition to this, you must complete your study programme within a specific period of time. Among other things, there are clearly defined rules for leave of abscence.

Knowing the rules and keeping yourself update on SDU's rules on student activity is your obligation only.

As an European citizen, you have to apply for your EU residence document, cpr. number and choose your doctor (yellow card).

From 4th August you can book a meeting with SIRI + Citizen Service (Borgerservice) for the special opening day for SDU students: Friday 15 September between 10-16 (if necessary, it will also be possible to book a timeslot 19 September + 26 September). On the day reserved for you, you have to show up in person at the address: Borgen, Holger Drachmanns Plads 5, 2 floor.

  • Before the meeting with SIRI, you must fill in the online application form, you find here:

    www.nyidanmark.dk

    In the application form there will be a page for self-declaration support. It is not necessary that you fill in this part, but to move on with your application, you must upload an empty formular.

    To your application form you must enclose your passport or ID card (both front and back side).

    In the end of your application, you will receive a reference number. Please bring the number with you to the meeting with SIRI!

    Please notice, you must fill in the application form at latest the day before you have an appointment with SIRI!

     

  • From 4th August you must book a meeting with SIRI + Citizen Service (Borgerservice) via the special link for students in Sønderborg:

Show up in person at the address for SIRI + Citizen Service (Borgerservice): 15 September, 19 or 26 September on the time reserved for you.

Please remember to bring your original passport/ID card.

  • After SIRI has handled your EU residence document, you can apply for your cpr. number, get your doctor (yellow card) and get information about MitID and e-boks.

     

    Please prepare the meeting and follow the instructions below:

     

  • Fill in the online entry form you find on this page.
  •  You must upload following documents to the form - and also bring the original documents to the meeting with Citizen Service (Borgerservice):
  • (In the end you will get a receipt – please save your receipt number!)

    • Passport or personal certification
    • Civil status document, if you are married/divorced/widowed.
    • Birth certificate of children
    • A rental agreement or a written confirmation by the person whose residence you live at.
  • Important, in the end of your application you will be given a receipt number. The receipt number you must send by email to: folkeregister@sonderborg.dk (deadline: 5 September) – in the subject of the email you have to write: Registration SDU 150923 (or 190923/260923 if your appointment is on another day).

Please make sure that you filled in the electronic forms and have ALL documents ready before talking to SIRI + Citizen Service (Borgerservice)

Residence permit/Registration for Non-EU

Non-EU citizens with a residence permit/VISA can hand in the above mentioned documentation directly at the Municipality (Borgerservice) in Sønderborg .

Most Danes looove their bikes - you should try as well!

We recommend that you buy a bike for your transportation needs. You can get around with your bike through Sønderborg in no time . All dorms are approx. 5 - 10 minutes away from University, the same applies to the City Centre.

Fancy to bring your car to Denmark?

As a student you can bring your car to Denmark and use it up to two years with your foreign license plates. Please note, that you cannot drive your car for more than 185 days per year if you bring it along. You must register your car. To find information on the rules and complete the necessary form, go to www.skat.dk.
