Teaching and examination periods

Teaching periods

  • Autumn semester: September to December (up to and including week 51)
  • Spring semester: February to May (up to and including week 22)

Teaching may take place outside the periods mentioned, for example during field courses and courses offered as intensive programmes in August. In such cases, this will be stated explicitly in the course description.

There is no teaching during Week 42 or on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Maundy Thursday.

Examination periods

  • Ordinary examinations, winter: January
  • Re-examinations, winter: Mondays in the period from February until the end of April
  • Ordinary examinations, summer: June
  • Re-examinations, summer: August

Examinations may be scheduled during weekends.

Special occasions

  • There is no scheduled teaching on Constitution Day (5 June).
  • On the first Friday in May, when SDU holds its annual Students’ Day, there is no scheduled teaching at SDU Odense.
  • On the last Friday in October, when SDU holds its Annual University Celebration, there is no scheduled teaching after 12:00 pm. For practical and safety reasons, no on-campus teaching takes place at SDU Odense on this day, except for laboratory exercises involving experiments that cannot be postponed.

Important deadlines

  • Registration for autumn courses: 20–30 May
  • Registration for spring courses: 20–30 November
  • Registration for ordinary winter exams (if you haven’t registered for the course itself): 1–20 June
  • Registration for ordinary summer exams (if you haven’t registered for the course itself): 1–20 January
  • Registration for re-exams in February–April: 1–20 January
  • Registration for re-exams in August: 1–20 June
  • Submission of project contracts: 1 week after the start of the semester in which the project is started
  • Replacement of electives: 3 weeks after the start of the semester in which you have registered for the course
