Forskningsområde

My broad research area is the geochemistry of trace metals in the aquatic environment, with a specific focus on redox-sensitive trace metals in marine sediments. These metals respond in unique ways depending on the concentration of oxygen in the water, and therefore, their behaviour can be used to provide information about the oxygen concentration at the time the metals were deposited in the sediment. By understanding how these trace metals behave in modern marine sediments, we can gain insights into the ancient oceans by examining these metals in ancient sediments.

To achieve these objectives, I utilize cutting-edge analytical techniques to measure the concentration and speciation of metals in environmental samples, including: inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry (ICP-MS); synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS); and synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence microscopy (XFM).
