It may be that an education, a line or a profile will be discontinued. On this page, we explain the background and significance of such a decision, should it be made. Note that we use the collective term ‘offer’ instead of education, line and profile.
General
There can be several reasons why an offer is discontinued:
... that the offer does not have enough applicants
... that the offer does not match the needs of the labour market
...that the offer is to be changed so much that it becomes a new offer
No.
There is no lower limit for the number of students on an offer. Some programmes are even so crucial to our society that, regardless of a very small number of students, there will be a demand for us to keep offering them.
On an offer that is being discontinued, special attention will be paid to informing students about the last offer – in terms of both teaching and exams.

Can I expect a consultation process in which I can be heard? Is it possible to object to a decision to discontinue an offer, or can I complain about a possible decision to discontinue an offer?
Students will not be consulted about any plans the University has to discontinue offers.

Can I continue to plan a project-oriented course or similar?
Yes, you can.

What do I do if I have already arranged all agreements in connection with a project-oriented course or similar, and the course takes place after my offer is discontinued?

Will my application for an exchange place through SDU be taken into account if my exchange takes place after my offer is discontinued?
Yes – your application will be processed as normal.
Can I keep the exchange place that I have already been allocated by SDU if my exchange takes place after my offer is discontinued?
Yes – you must continue the process as planned (i.e. apply for a place at the host university, seek accommodation abroad, etc.).
Can I speak to someone about an exchange or project-oriented course abroad?
Yes – you most certainly can.

Will my residence permit be affected if, as an international student, I am studying on a programme that is to be discontinued?
Yes, possibly – you must ensure that you inform your home institution about your activities at SDU. We can help you along the way. Find SDU International’s contact information at mitsdu.dk/studyabroad. As full degree student contact Admission through SPOC.
Do I have to do anything about my SU or the special educational support that I get if my offer is discontinued?
Both your SU, SPS and other forms of support are dependent on you being enrolled on and active in an eligible programme. Can I speak to someone about my career opportunities if I consider a change of education programme or similar?

What do I do if I have been assigned a supervisor for my final assignment and am slowly getting started, but the exam itself is not until after my offer is discontinued?
Contact your degree programme secretary (or similar) or the student counselling for your programme to hear about your options. You will find contact information on your study page on MitSDU.
SDU will make sure that everyone who is studying on programme that is to be discontinued has reasonable time to either complete the programme or to find new relevant educational paths.

Will I lose my results if I have passed one or more exams on my programme that is about to be discontinued?
No – you will not lose your passed results in the subjects in which you took the test but did not pass.
What will be written on my degree certificate if I change programme, line or similar?
The comprehensive degree certificate shows the programme you were last enrolled on. In addition, an overview of results for subject elements that are part of the programme and merit-transferred exams is also included.
The content of the degree certificate is regulated in the Examination Executive Order, which you can find at retsinformation.dk (in Danish).
What will happen to my legal claim if I do not manage to finish my programme before it closes?
We are in the process of clarifying how the legal claim is to be dealt with and will update this answer as soon as possible.
Will it affect my future if SDU discontinues an offer? For instance, will I still have the same opportunities in the labour market and how will potential employers perceive me?
You will still have the same options. Your skills and qualifications will not change.
Your future employers are not concerned with whether your programme, main subjects, profile or subject is still offered at SDU. They relate to you, your skills, qualifications and personality.

My course of study is special, e.g. due to leave, military service or the like, which means that I am not active on my programme for a period of time. What should I do?
