Grants for Internships and Project-Oriented Placements

Placements within Europe

The Erasmus+ Placement Programme is an EU programme for university students, who want to do an internship or project-oriented placement abroad in collaboration with a foreign organisation or institution as part of their studies.

Nice to know: Erasmus+

The financial support is facilitated by SDU International Office, and to be eligible for the Erasmus+ grant the placement must meet the following conditions:

  • The placement must take place within EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Turkey
  • The placement cannot take place at EU institutions
  • You must receive ECTS for the placement
  • The placement must last at least 2 months*
  • In terms of workload, the participants have to work full time, based on their receiving organisation’s working time

* The placement period is calculated from exact dates, using a mandatory calculation tool provided by Erasmus+. Placements lasting less, for example 1 month and 3 weeks, cannot be considered for Erasmus+.

Before the placement commences an agreement covering the content of the placement must be entered between you, the host of the placement, and SDU. This agreement is called an Erasmus+ Learning Agreement.

The EU grants a scholarship of about 600 euro a month to placements that give credits.

You can find the template for the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement as well as a step by step guide for the application here.

Extra grants for students with fewer opportunities

The Erasmus+ programme wants to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to go abroad – therefore you can apply for extra Erasmus+ grant if :

  • You suffer from a chronical condition (physical or psychological) or a functional impairment (grant top-up, as well as possibility of coverage of specifically high expenditures in relation to your stay).
  • You are the primary caregiver/breadwinner for one or more children/persons

Please contact SDU International Office for further information.

Placements outside of Europe and shorter placements

If you are doing a placement abroad outside of the Erasmus+ scheme, for example outside of Europe or a placement lasting less than two months, then you can apply for a travel scholarship from SDU’s Internationalisation Fund, provided the placement has been preapproved by your study board or your supervisor.

Nice to know: SDU Internationalisation Fund

The financial support is facilitated by SDU International Office, and to be eligible for the SDU Internationalisation Fund, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You must be a full-time student at SDU
  • A minimum credit transfer of 5 ECTS must be awarded by your study board
  • Your study board or your supervisor has to preapprove your stay abroad, and upon your return, you must get the credits transferred to your degree at SDU. Alternatively, your stay abroad should be approved as part of your bachelor's project or master's thesis
  • You will need to be enrolled at or associated with an institution or company abroad during the entire period
  • You cannot at the same time receive support from SDU's other exchange programmes or from the Study Abroad Scholarship (Udlandsstipendium)

The size of the grant depends on destination, duration, and number of ECTS pre-approved. Individual trips, participation in conferences, data collection, etc. are not supported.

The grant  is a lump sum - the entire amount will be transferred to you as a single payout.

The allocation of grants is subject to sufficient funding.

Your grades may be considered.

Special procedures apply to students of medicine - read more here.
