The stay abroad in Nepal gives you a unique opportunity to gain insight into and knowledge about the Nepalese healthcare system. Nepal continues to be characterized by inequality in the overall state of health across population groups. The healthcare system is challenged, but Nepal has seen an improvement in the state of health over the latest generation, especially concerning women health and children.

You will be introduced to the Nepalese healthcare system through visits to hospitals, health clinics and universities. Focus will also be on culture, rights and social conditions.

The program is centered around the Bhaktapur District in the Kathmandu Valley, and we will go on excursions to several cities and villages in the surrounding area.

The teachers are Nepali and the lectures will be given in English. Guest teachers with specialized knowledge will elaborate on their area of expertise and we will visit health professionals on-site where they work.

In 2020, the program will include:

  • Introduction to the Nepalese society (politics, history and socially) and lectures about cultural differences
  • Introduction to the Nepalese healthcare system focusing on their main health issues, the infrastructure of the healthcare system and facilities, as well as access to treatment and prevention
  • Visit to important religious sites (Pashupati hindu temple and Bouddha stupa)
  • Excursion and visit to a public health post including a short hike
  • Guest lecture on reproductive health and children’s health
  • Visit to project that promotes women’s health
  • Insight into health care in government and private hospitals
  • Visit to specialized Tropical and Infectious Disease hospital
  • Insight into NGOs working with empowerment of marginalized groups in health
  • 2 days of observation training, visit or field work, based on field of study/interest.
  • 2 days off with the opportunity to arrange your own trips.

Please note that the final program may be subject to change.

Therefore, always consult the guidelines specified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs valid for Danish citizens.

NB. If you're not a Danish citizen, other visa rules apply. To learn which visa rules apply to you, contact the local representation or your embassy/consulate in Denmark.
