Summer courses in Shanghai, China

SDU is a council member of the Nordic Centre at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. A profound opportunity to participate in one of two summer courses is therefore provided to our students. The course, as well as expected overnight trips in the region of Shanghai, costs 110 euro/800 RMB (2019). You as a student cover your travel costs and living expense.

Both courses take place in Shanghai, China and are worth 5 ECTS. There is no previous knowledge required for either course.
In order to get credit for the summer course, you will have to apply for a pre-approval at your study board.

If accepted, you can apply for a grant of 3.500,- DKK from SDU International. The grant requires a pre-approval from your study board worth 5 ECTS from the summer course.

What can I study?

Chinese Politics and Society: For undergraduate students

Two weeks intensive course from June 27th - July 10th 2019

The course provides you with fundamental knowledge of China’s political landscape from the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949 to present.

The course is designed with group work assignments.

Visit to Nordic consulates included. 

Business and Innovation in China: For graduate students

Two weeks intensive course from July 12th -  July 25th 2019

The course is designed with a mix of academics and hands-on case approach to business life in China.

Visits to Nordic companies in the Shanghai region as well as lectures from representatives from the Nordic Business Community.

What does it cost?

The student will have to cover travel expenses, accommodation, medical insurance and spending money.
Participation one-time fee is RMB 800 (ca. 800 DKK) in cash upon arrival. 

Some meals will be covered by the Nordic Centre.

How do I apply?

In order to be considered for the nomination for one of these courses, you will have to fill out the application form and submit it to SDU International by March 18th at the latest. Please mark your application “Nordic Centre Summer Course” and send it to int@sdu.dk.

The application should include:

  1. The attached application form
  2. A copy of your latest transcript from SDU
  3. A letter of motivation – max 300 words

We will then select 3 students for nomination and submit the response to the Nordic Centre at Fudan University in China.

For evaluating the applications, we consider the following criteria:

  1. The quality of your letter of motivation
  2. How far you are in your studies
  3. Your grade point average

We have 3 spots and will distribute them equally between the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Engineering. If we have an extra spot it will go to the most qualified applicant.
