What is a doctor’s certificate?
A doctor’s certificate is the certificate that the doctor fills out and which documents that you have been ill or experienced other unusual circumstances. The certificate must be dated and stamped by the doctor.
Please note that you yourself need to pay for the doctor’s certificate.
Check list for the doctor’s certificate
Here is a list with suggestions of what the doctor’s certificate might include
- What happened? You are or have been ill.
- When did it happen? Stating the date - meaning the date of the illness (such as the date of the examination by the doctor) or the period of illness (such as January 2018 - April 2018). If you are not well yet, the doctor can indicate a date for when you are expected to be well.
Please note that the date for your seeing your doctor is important. If you become ill before an examination, you need to contact your doctor immediately.
- How does it affect you? How does your illness affect your ability to study and take examinations? (Such as memory problems, difficulty concentrating, insomnia, difficulty writing, etc.).
- What might happen now? What it might require for you to become well. (for instance, psychological therapy, rest, or other).
The languages used in the doctor’s certificate
The medical report needs to be written in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German. If the doctor’s certificate has been written in another language than those, you need to have it translated by a certified translator. It is not sufficient for you to translate it.
