Read about Hung’s stay abroad in Indonesia

I came to Indonesia to execute my 5th semester as an exchange student at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta. The University of Southern Denmark provided the study abroad program, which I took and it gave me the opportunity to travel abroad Denmark and experience a part of the world. During my stay, I was mostly in the city Yogyakarta, which is a city full of international people. A city that never sleeps and a people full of kindness and openness. My mission to this journey was to expand my network and learn about new experiences such as cultures etc. By the time in Indonesia, I’ve managed to accomplish that and learn about their culture. Another mission of mine was to execute my 5th semester by passing all my courses, that I took in Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta. That I’ve managed to accomplished as well, but most of all, I’ve managed to create an experience for life that I will take for granted.

International day
The university held a few events which I attended to, such as the international day. This event was so incredible and I met so many new people that were interested in Denmark. The event was specific about representing our own country, which in this case were Denmark. My reputation from this day increased insanely, people around the whole university suddenly knew about me. Most important, I expanded my network. Another event that I attended to was a promotion of Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta at Stella Duce School, which was a free volunteering. The Stella Duce School is a Junior High School, which is a girl school.

During my stay, I had a schedule from Monday to Friday, which included courses of:

  • Project Management
  • System Modelling
  • Mechatronic
  • Technopreneurship
  • Computer Programming
  • Manufacturing Facility Planning
  • Bahasa Indonesia

Which overall enhanced my skills of being an engineering. The difficulties of the material were not the hard part but the communication and understanding from lecture to student was. The class was an international class everything had to be in English, but due to the pronunciation and lecturing from the lectures, it suddenly became harder to understand the message. It required multiple repetitions from the lecture and a lot of concentration before I understood the message. Reading was essential at this point, if the books were in English.

Spare time
So, due to the city was so international, every day was a day filled with life and party. So, during my spare time, my friend and I would be out doing our
night shift. We attended to lots of meetings, parties, events and everything else that could give us an experience for life.

Even though my daily week routine kept me occupied most of my time, I still managed to travel short distanced sightseeing. Even with 5 month in Indonesia, I feel like there are more to explore, more to be unfold and more to be experienced. My journey to Indonesia has given me a good experience for life. This opportunity is a must! Time was precious, it was limited and I enjoyed every single moment of my life in Indonesia. I managed to expand my network, experience a new culture, strengthen my knowledge and most important of all, created myself a family in Indonesia.
